Jeanne Valentine is well-versed in corporate and employment law, and her diverse background allows her to counsel and advocate for both the employer and employee in all aspects of labor and employment law. This gives the Valentine Law Office an edge when dealing with complex legal employment matters.
Jeanne grew up in the Hudson Valley - most of her family resides here and has for generations. It is important to her that Hudson Valley employers and employees alike are informed about the various laws and regulations that affect employment decisions. What appear to be simple choices are often the critical factors that determine whether either side becomes embroiled in costly and burdensome litigation. It is the purpose of this law firm to offer advice, guidance and counselling to avoid litigation and assure the fair treatment of all involved. In the event that litigation is pursued, we will use our years of experience to aggressively fight for our clients with a focus on cost-effective and efficient representation. Our clients are always kept apprised of the status of the case, informed of events as they occur, and advised as to the current state of the law as it concerns the issues presented.
Throughout her practice, Jeanne has represented Fortune-500 companies and medium to small sized corporations and partnerships, as well as directors and officers, executive management, brokers, attorneys, accountants, doctors, financial professionals, supervisors and staff members in employment litigation matters involving restrictive covenants and ERISA, contract formations and disputes, retaliatory discharge, whistle blowing, severance package negotiations, FLSA violations, civil rights discrimination under Title VII, the ADEA and the ADA, and has litigated complicated commercial cases concerning professional liability, breach of contract, fraud, tax shelters, white collar crime, RICO, negligence, subrogation, and bankruptcy. In addition to actively litigating cases, Jeanne has extensive experience counselling employers and employees regarding risk-management and pre-suit dispute resolutions. She has engaged in precedent-setting oral arguments before the Federal and State Supreme and Appellate Courts, conducted and defended over 300 depositions of parties and experts, and participated in several federal and state evidentiary hearings, mediations, arbitration hearings, jury voir dire, other formal proceedings, as well as high exposure settlement negotiations. Jeanne will not offer advice in any area of the law in which she is not experienced, but will take the time to understand your issues and refer you to a competent local attorney who can help you if she cannot.
In her time away from the office, Jeanne is involved with local politics, serving as a four-term Member of the Legislative Advisory Committee for New York State Senator Serphin R. Maltese. Ms. Valentine serves as the District 9 Representative (Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland and Orange Counties) of the Labor & Employment Law section of the New York State Bar Association (www.nysba.org), and enjoys membership in the New York County Lawyers Association (www.nycla.org), Orange County Bar Association (www.orangelaw.org), and the Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce (www.gsdcc.org). She is one of few selected Experts in both the Employment Law category and the General Legal category of the pay-per-question service offered at www.JustAnswer.com. She is a former Barrister with the American Inns of Court (www.innsofcourt.org), served as a member of the Resource Board for the National Association of Women Judges (www.nawj.org), and is a Member of the Republican National Lawyers Association (www.rnla.org). She is also a voting member of the Powelton Club of Newburgh, an active volunteer with the Parkinson’s Action Network nationwide and The Smile Train charity for children born with cleft lip and palate.
Jeanne is admitted to practice before the New York State courts, as well as the Eastern and Southern District of New York United States Courts, and the Second Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. Several of her motions and oral arguments have resulted in published decisions, including Bones v. Prudential Insurance Co., 17 Misc.3d 656 (N.Y. Sup. 2007); Purchase Real Estate Group, Inc. v. The program was recognized by JCAHO with its highest award of commendation. As a result, she was selected to be a member of the 1997 Healthcare Edition of International Who’s Who of Professionals.
